How It Works

UnlockExcel is designed to be simple, fast, and secure. Here is exactly what happens when you use our tool to remove password protection from your Excel files:

Upload and Scan

You select or drag and drop your Excel file (.xlsx, .xlsm, or .xls). We send the file to our stateless server where it is immediately scanned to detect what type of protections are applied (Workbook, Sheet, or VBA).

Instant Unlock

Once scanned, you click "Unlock". Our engine processes the file purely in memory. It strips out the internal XML nodes or binary flags that enforce the password protection without altering your actual data.

Download Securely

The unprotected file is instantly returned to your browser for download. The file is then immediately wiped from our server's memory. No copies are ever saved on our disks.

Privacy First

We take your privacy seriously. The entire process is automated and stateless. We do not read the contents of your worksheets, nor do we store any files. Everything happens on-the-fly and is discarded right after processing.
